Calvary is a worshiping church! One of the greatest forms of expressing our gratitude and sense of awe before God is to worship Him. Typically we think of worship as occurring on Sunday mornings which would be consistent with the words of the psalmist “I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where your glory dwells” (Psalms 26:8). Yet, worship is more than just a Sunday morning experience. At Calvary our hope and encouragement is for Christ followers to engage in worship before God throughout the day, every day. We worship God as we sing songs of adoration to Him in the car. We worship God as we read His word, meditate upon His truths, and fully embrace His teachings. We worship God as we spend unrushed, God focused times of prayer with Him. We worship God as we share how He has transformed out lives with a world that desperately needs, and cries out for, the quality of love, peace, joy, and forgiveness that God alone can provide. We worship God as – in Christ’s name – we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and care for the poor. True, there is an element of worship that is intimate and personal, just us and God time (“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth” – John 4:24). There is, however, also a measure of worship that is offered up to God by what we “do” – both inside the church and outside the church.
As disciples our call is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and with all our strength (Matthew 12:30). It’s as we do this – strive to commit our words, thoughts, and actions to Him – that we love Him! It also as we do this that we worship Him.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.
